  • 2 Jul 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I come from the Kiambu County and, indeed, in this country, it should be the first county to stand and support the idea and the theme of this Motion. If there is any problem that we are having as a county, it is the problem of alcohol abuse by our young people who eventually grow into drinking adults and who also, at the end of the day, grow into drinking parents. As leaders and as a people of a country, we are all facing a problem that must be called a national disaster. I ... view

  • 27 Jun 2013 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I am just wondering whether the hon. Senator is in order to state and suggest to this House that as the Senator for Kiambu County where Alliance High School is situated, that I do not support what he is saying about the pressures in the national schools and what needs to be done to correct the situation. I want to state categorically that I understand and appreciate all that he is saying. It is important that all corrective measures should be taken to make sure that schools are adequately facilitated. It is ... view
  • 27 Jun 2013 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, thank you for the opportunity to contribute to this Motion. Let me say from the outset that in view of some of the contributions made by my colleagues and especially comments and contributions made by Sen. Karaba, him being an educationist, certainly his views are important and should be taken seriously. I also want to set clarity on some of the issues as I understand them. The main motive behind this Motion is not essentially to transfer some of the functions as has been misunderstood. I support this Motion because it is clear in my mind from ... view
  • 26 Jun 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise to support this Motion as amended. From the onset, let me congratulate, just like my colleagues have done, Sen. Muthama for moving this very important and timely Motion. We have all by unanimous consensus agreed that indeed, this is not only a national issue but it is also a major national concern. When the Mover of this Motion was moving it, he referred to some young men who normally dive to attract tourists in the Fourteen Falls Dam. I also want to share in that concern and, indeed, declare that those young ... view
  • 26 Jun 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this chance to contribute to this Motion. There is no single person sitting in this Chamber today, who can adequately enumerate or even evaluate the true value of a teacher in this country. Teachers are invaluable. Their services are extremely important. I can attest to that fact considering my background. There are many Kenyans who have only benefited by the input and services rendered to them by teachers. Today, I can stand with other Kenyans and eke out a living because of what teachers did for me. So, the value that these ... view
  • 26 Jun 2013 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I have a very simple confession. I am fully aware that as the Senator for Kiambu County, many teachers in my own county voted for me in good faith. I honour them. I will stand up to everything that they ask for that would make their lives and work easier and better. If laptops had not been promised to our class one children, teachers would have still demanded for what they are demanding. So, let us face this problem, compromise, sit together and find a solution. Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. view
  • 25 Jun 2013 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. While the remarks by my fellow Senator are not only worthy of making people laugh, they, indeed, are serious. Is he in order to mislead the country and this House that the 2007 clashes were caused by a sour affair between two communities? Again, which communities? Is he in order to imply that there are two communities currently making love? view
