  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I wish to support that amendment. Let us not become the voters. Let us provide for legislation and let him or her put his case to the voters, if he or she comes back, well and good. If he or she does not, too bad. view
  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, I agree with my Chair. This is unnecessary. Nothing will stop the Commission, under its normal operations, from getting in touch with any other Ministry, individual or corporation. So, this is an unnecessary amendment. So, I oppose. view
  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, it is, indeed, an omission and for purposes of the record, it has to be very clear. We wish to inform the Chair that the amendment the Committee is moving is on Clause 10(1). view
  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, Members are consulting so loudly, I can barely hear myself. view
  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is very unfortunate when you are a woman in a political party or when you are a youth in a political party. In this House, each party committed sin in as far as women are concerned. Let us start with my own party so that I deal with the other parties. Ms. Wavinya was locked out because she is a woman and we gave a man the chance. The ODM locked out Prof. Sambili and a number of other women. Ms. Karua was locked out in 1992--- view
  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: We are talking about party issues, Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir. Hon. Noor was locked out by KANU in 1997. If this law was there, that could not have happened. Men like asking women to vote for them but when it comes to giving them 30 per cent of the nominees, we do not want to do that. If we are genuine as men, we should endorse this clause. view
  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Chairlady, you know, he is only looking on one side of the coin. Let us now turn the other side of the coin where all parties are guilty. Whenever all our parties campaign for their candidates, they want to make their candidates look very good. Obviously, most of the time, they do not give material facts so that one can get voted in. That is the other side of the coin. That is why, as Members of the Committee, we realised that if somebody uses this, he can come and say: “You won the election by over-praising ... view
  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Chairlady, so that hon. Members are not lost--- view
  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: I am happy that Mr. Kimunya is not lost. view
  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I am in total agreement with the proposal that we reject 10 years, purely, because if an election offence is committed, and you are told that from the date of conviction - Chances are that the date of conviction is not the same as the date of election. That means that you will be convicted after the election and, automatically, you will not contest in the next election. So, at the end of the day, that would be almost like 10 years. I want us to reduce that period to five years so that, in the ... view
