  • 17 Apr 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you for this opportunity. I will make very few remarks. As neighbours, we have an obligation to extinguish the fire in South Sudan. We cannot afford to watch the situation deteriorate in South Sudan as we did when Somalia had challenges. Our failure to intervene in Somalia has resulted into what we witness on a daily basis. Our intervention in South Sudan can be justified on account of achieving good neighbourliness. This will be good for trade, business, economic and social development and for peace and prosperity in the entire region. I support. view

  • 25 Mar 2014 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. On 6th March, this year, I requested for a statement from the Chair of the Committee on Education, Information and Technology regarding the number of students in Kisii County who have been sent away from public secondary schools for failing to pay some levies which have been imposed by the schools. I was promised that this statement would be issued in two weeks from that time and it is now three weeks since then. Could I ask to be told when I should expect a response to this request? • 25 Mar 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do not know if you understood what the Chairperson promised. When will the statement be issued? In fact, the impression that I get is that it is not definite, because he has said that he will no longer be the Chairperson of that Committee. What answer will I take home? view
  • 25 Mar 2014 in Senate: Very well, Mr. Speaker, Sir. But the only problem is that I had not suggested any day. In fact, it was not for me to suggest the date when the response will be given. view

  • 20 Mar 2014 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. In light of the weighty matters being canvassed here, would I be in order to suggest that this matter be referred to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Land and Natural Resources and ask them to interrogate the matter and bring a comprehensive report to this House? view
  • 20 Mar 2014 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, on behalf of the Chairperson of the Committee on Energy, Roads and Transport, I wish to make quick responses to questions that were raised in this House. On 11th March, 2014, Sen. Chelule requested for a Statement regarding the state of Molo-Olenguruone Road. She in particular wanted to know why the construction of the road has taken so long considering that the road is only 54.5 kilometres long. • 20 Mar 2014 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, this is really regrettable. The Ministry responsible for roads makes a budget and they say: We require so much money for this project. Unfortunately because of the financing challenges and the competing interests, Treasury is not able to allocate the amount requested by the Ministry in charge of roads. So, the problem really is elsewhere. It is with the Treasury and not the people in charge of the roads. view
