  • 2 Jul 2020 in National Assembly: Development Agreement with the community yet in the first table, it does not even show that company as one of the large-scale companies in Taita Taveta or the Coast region. Secondly, I asked about how much had accrued in the Central Bank of Kenya accounts as royalties. The community back home has been told to expect about Kshs6 billion to come back to the community. Through this Statement, I wanted to put that to rest so that it can be known exactly how much the community would get after the regulations come through this House. Now they say that because ... view
  • 2 Jul 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I suspect there is a conspiracy between the National Treasury and the Ministry of Mining and Petroleum. We have been waiting for those regulations for four years yet the National Treasury and the Ministry of Mining and Petroleum are not telling us how much has accumulated in the CBK account as royalties. That means that that money has been utilised for other things and the community should expect nothing. If that money is intact, they should tell us that under titanium, this is the amount that has accumulated and we are just waiting for regulations. view
  • 2 Jul 2020 in National Assembly: I stand guided, Hon. Speaker. I will table a Motion. It is important that those ministries take Parliament’s work seriously. It is really disappointing that after sitting for two hours with the CAS, the Statement did not even change a comma. They need to take us seriously. I stand guided. I will develop this into a Motion, so that the House can canvass and make resolutions. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 30 Jun 2020 in National Assembly: Asante, Mhe. Spika. Mhe. ... view

  • 9 Jun 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to present a Statement regarding mining royalties. Pursuant to Standing Order 44(2)(c), I wish to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources regarding the share of royalties from mining activities of large-scale miners. In the mining activities of large-scale miners, the Mining Act establishes a ratio of sharing royalties of 70:20:10 and the Community Development Agreements (CDAs) Committee as a means to better define and manage relationships and obligations between mining companies and impacted communities. The CDAs play a valuable role ... view

(iv) Could the Ministry give a clear roadmap and actual date that we shall operationalise the share of these royalties, more so when we expect the community and the county allocation to be released from the central account at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK)? (v) What quantities of iron ore has been extracted annually in Kishushe Location, Wundanyi Constituency for the last 10 years?
