  • 19 Oct 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am grateful that an amount of Kshs151 million has been allocated to Ol Kalou. I would like to challenge the Minister to do a priority list, so that, that money will be released on the basis of that priority list. One thing which concerns me is the delay in rehabilitating those dams, which continue to create a lot of problems in terms of spreading diseases like amoeba, dysentery and other waterborne diseases. Could the Minister assure this House, and the people of Ol Kalou Constituency, that the money that has been allocated will be released once ... view
  • 7 Oct 2010 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Education:- (a) how many primary and secondary schools are there in Ol’ Kalou Constituency and how are they distributed among Nyandarua Central, Nyandarua West and Mirangiine districts; and, (b) how the teachers recently hired on contract basis were distributed in the three districts and what criteria was used. view
  • 7 Oct 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to thank the Minister for the distribution in secondary schools. However, what has shocked me as a member of the District Education Board (DEB) is the calculation for the primary schools. Nyandarua Central had a shortage of 78 teachers when we had a meeting. I do not know where the figure was changed to 38 such that the district is the lowest now in terms of performance. I would like to know where the figure of 38 came from. As members of the DEB, we indicated the district has a shortage of 78 ... view
  • 7 Oct 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, whereas I sympathize with the Minister for Education, I get very concerned because in each district, I have a fully qualified District Education Officer (DEO). It actually baffles me that the other two DEO’s figures were accepted as we had passed them in the DEB. However, the Nyandarua Central District figures moved from a shortage of 78 teachers to 38 teachers. Whatever formula was used, I do not think the DEB--- Is the Minister telling us that the DEO in Nyandarua Central District does not have the capacity to calculate the vacancy availability and present ... view
  • 5 Oct 2010 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Roads:- (a) whether he is aware that the contractor re-carpeting Nyahururu- Gilgil Road (C77) has used red soil excavated by the roadside as the base material for re-carpeting; and (b) what steps the Minister is taking to correct the situation before the contractor goes too far with the works. view
  • 5 Oct 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I have listened and heard from the Assistant Minister for Roads. But if one was to travel between the Nyandarua County and the Nakuru county, along that road, what is very clear is the very big excavated holes where the contractor removed the top soil, started working on the shoulders and even the main road and put tarmac. As we speak, the part that has been done is already having potholes. I want the Assistant Minister to confirm to this House that he is going to instruct the contractor to redo most of the roads he has ... view
  • 5 Oct 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am very shocked by the way the road network is being done and being a user of that road, I feel very bad about it. But as we speak now, the contractor has seven months to go, having done only 16 percent and the assurance we have heard from the Assistant Minister. Since every road has a Government resident engineer, why would the Ministry allow substandard material to be used when a Government resident engineer is stationed there and he is supposed to certify the quality of the materials? view
  • 5 Oct 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I took the Minister of State for Special Programmes around and she saw the deplorable conditions in which people are living. A day before, a lady gave birth and she was given the name Murugi. So, one of the IDPs is named after her. I am surprised to hear the number of IDPs she is saying--- What is she doing to make sure that these people are resettled? It is three years down the road and they are still living under the conditions you witnessed yourself. view
  • 5 Oct 2010 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Going by the mood of the House, may the Mover be called upon to reply because people have started to become repetitive? view
  • 1 Sep 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, whereas the Assistant Minister is talking of the IDPs who have not been registered with them in Lari, I would like him to also tell us what he is doing about the IDPs who are duly registered and currently suffering during these long rains in some areas, including my area of Ol Kalou. view
