  • 20 Jun 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for allowing me to add my voice to this very important Motion on sitting of the Senate outside the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi. Many of our important sittings have always been in Nairobi and the people at the grassroots need our presence. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 19 Jun 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for allowing me to stand and condole with the family of Sen. Okello. I send my condolences to the family and the great people of Migori County. It is a sad day for us, as Senators. I have personally not interacted much with the Senator. However, from what I have heard and the fact that he was one of us, I feel for the family and pray that God at this time will comfort them and provide for their needs. It is less than one year since the people of Migori County elected Sen. Okello. ... view
  • 13 Jun 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I appreciate the Petitioner, Sen. Halake. Thank you for coming up with this. I come from a county that has three conservancy areas. From my childhood, I have known the conflict between the residents there, animals and the rangers. I support this fully because this Petition will solve the issues that have been there. In supporting, I ask that we and the Committee give it the proper attention that it deserves. Let us fight so that proper funding can be given and we take care of all thestakeholders. At the end of the day, Kenya ... view
  • 13 Jun 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I stand to support this very important Bill and also appreciate the sponsor of the Bill for bringing it to the Senate. I support this Bill because, as we all know, our 47 counties need to be effective and efficient. Some of the conditions that are there will not help them to move very fast in whatever they are doing. However, this particular Bill proposes efficiency in their work and that is why I support it. In this Bill, you can clearly see that, in Clause 6 under Part II; Establishment of the Office ... view
  • 7 Jun 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I congratulate and thank Sen. Chebeni for bringing this to our attention. I support it because I am a mother and I know the pain of mothers whose daughters have gone through this, while in school. As a society, this is something that we need to give attention to and deal with because of the dilemma that our girls are going through. They are not safe at all. When we send them to schools, we believe that they are safe. Instead, as I said yesterday, the hyenas from within and without continue to attack them. ... view
  • 7 Jun 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I rise to support this Motion because it touches on human life which is very important to each one of us. As an individual, I am deeply concerned with anything that touches on the life and dignity of human beings. The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is an important body that exists to protect and build global democracy through political dialogue and concentrate on actions. It is a body that we all need to support and stand with because of what it stands for. We also know that migration is a global phenomenon that requires global action. ... view
  • 7 Jun 2018 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, thank you for giving me this opportunity to add my voice to this important Motion on registration of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). It is 55 years since Kenya got Independence.Talking about this and stating that we do not have the data that can guide the nation shows that we have not played our role well. That is why I support this and I urge the relevant institution to take necessary action and do the proper finding. We all know that PWDs have been neglected in the past. In fact, in the African context, when a child is ... view
  • 6 Jun 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I stand to support this Petition because it touches on people’s lives. However, we also need to know the people who take advantage of every situation. As Sen. Olekina said, they find opportunity in everything. The committee that will be set up should come up with proper investigations and tell us the genuine people and guide this nation. Investigations have been done in the past but the credibility and genuineness of our reports have always been questioned. The committee tasked should give this Petition the proper attention that it deserves, so that the report that will ... view
  • 6 Jun 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise to welcome the students from Precious Blood Secondary School, Riruta together with their teachers. We are proud of you and as a woman Leader, I want to encourage each one of you to work hard so that you can help this nation to grow. I come from a pastoralist community where we talk of hyenas everywhere. There are so many hyenas outside there and even within. So, we pray that the teachers protect the girls --- view
