  • 11 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. The Minister has answered part “b” of the Question very well. However, he has not answered part “a” where I have asked why telephone poles which cost Kshs25,000 each are being sold to members of the public at Kshs500 each. Surely, that is not their value. They are being disposed of and yet, Telkom Kenya wants the Government to pay a loan of US$60 million. They are throwing away the assets that are owned by wananchi at a mere price of Kshs500, while their economic value is over Kshs10,000. Could the Minister tell us ... view
  • 11 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Minister in order to misread what we are asking? We have said very clearly that public money was used to set up those poles. This Parliament has also been asked to confirm a loan of US$60 million that Orange Company has not taken over and yet, the Minister is saying that it is a private company. The assets are still public until the US$60 million guarantee is paid by Orange. So, we are asking for the protection of wananchi ’s property. view
  • 11 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I have absolutely no interest in the matter. I am just sickened by the fact that a pole, even if it was sold as firewood, could fetch more than Kshs500 and yet, he has the audacity to tell us that those poles are rubbish. If they are rubbish, could they all be collected and sent to North Eastern Province so that they can be used as fuel to feed the hungry? view
  • 10 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to ask the Minister for Information and Communications the following Question by Private Notice. (a) Why are telephone posts which used to cost Kshs25,000 each, currently being uprooted by Telkom Kenya and sold for Kshs500 each in Kanyakwar and Gambogi areas? (b) Could the Minister clarify whether the activity is a nationwide exercise and, if so, confirm that Telkom Kenya is no longer interested in supplying fixed line telephone services to Kenyans? view

  • 10 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I think the Assistant Minister is not being very open with us. I know that we have also asked the same question in Kisumu. We have been told categorically that there are no transformers available in the country. The ones that were imported from India have failed. Can the Assistant Minister tell us the status of our transformers? Do we have them in the country and are there any they have imported which have failed and are sitting in the godowns? If so, how many are they? view
  • 10 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Assistant Minister in order to evade answering the main part of the question? Have you imported any transformers from India? If so, how many of those have failed? It is not the issue of new lines; these are existing lines without transformers. view
  • 10 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I was contributing to this Motion. It is on the HANSARD. view
  • 10 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Motion was on water and sanitation and the issue of Lake Turkana. I am a little surprised! view
  • 10 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I stand to support the Bill in general, although there are many questions about specifics. Before I say anything, I am privileged and humbled that I had the opportunity of rubbing shoulders and meeting those heroes who have fought for human rights. We have seen them and we saw how they suffered. We have seen hon. Orengo, Dr. Khalwale, you and many others. I wonder whether I can even begin to put myself on the bottom of the last page in this aspect. What they have done and the Constitution that we have ... view
