  • 16 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I support the amendment even though I was coming to check whether my name is appearing. I have logged in and I was not being called out. I support. view
  • 16 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: I also support this amendment. It is a straightforward amendment. We are recognising that it is no longer national, but we also have county governments and it is important that we change it to public forests. view
  • 16 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: This is a very important amendment particularly the Trust Fund that has been created here. A lot of our forests have been cleared simply because of lack of such programmes. view
  • 16 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon Temporary Deputy Chairlady for protecting me. This Trust Fund will go a long way in protecting our forests particularly with what the Fund intends to do. Community forest programmes, reaforestation and afforestation programmes are very important because in this country, a lot of people are clearing forests for charcoal burning and other uses. This Trust Fund is very important. view
  • 3 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I support Hon. Okoth’s point of view. It is extremely important that the Committee also listens to what Members are proposing because we are just enriching what they have already done. I support Hon. Okoth. view
  • 2 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to also contribute to this very important Bill. The version that will be brought for the Third Reading will be comfortable for everybody. The objective of this Bill is to provide for a legislative framework to give effect to Article 63 of the Constitution. view
  • 2 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: When you look at this Bill, it goes to the core of what community land is. It has defined “community land”. There are four pillars - as one of my colleagues before me has said. There is recognition of what community land is. It then provides for the protection of the people who own that land. It is in line with the management of community land and administration. This Bill has tried to define who owns that land. It has gone a long way in talking about how the community will be using the land. For a long time, since ... view
  • 2 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: The other issue that this Bill has brought out are the resources that are available in that particular land. This is a very good Bill because, for so many years, the resources that are available in community land have been taken advantage of by the rich, the Government or outsiders. This Bill will now protect those resources so that they go to the right people. view
  • 2 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: The other very important issue that the Bill has brought out is the role of the county governments. We felt that the county governments should just hold it in trust for the community. They should not have any say so that community members have a big role to play with regard to their land. view
